Graffiti, by nature, is transient - layered and replaced over time, erased, and reimagined. The closed storefronts of early morning New York City, canvases for countless anonymous artists, carry this ephemerality in every spray of paint. In capturing them I hoped to preserve a snapshot of this ever-shifting dialogue between the city and its street artists. Shooting in the quiet mornings, I sought a balance between the gritty reality of these gates and the vibrancy of the graffiti adorning them. Each image was crafted with precision - square with the storefront, balanced in color, and unified despite the changing light.
